Option 1: Online Sessions with Dr Jane Genovese
Student Session: Study Hacks
Forget highlighting and rereading your notes and textbooks. These are old-fashioned and ineffective ways to learn.
In this session, students will learn a range of essential skills needed for high school.
Topics covered include:
- Dealing with distractions
- Defending your focus
- Making learning fun
- Combating boredom with Fun Theory
What’s included with an online live-streamed session:
- Follow-up resources (summary sheet)
- Tech trial before session (optional but highly recommended)
- Follow-up activity (optional)
Duration: 45-50 minutes
Note from Dr Jane:
Due to the interactive nature of the session, students should watch the presentation on a large screen in a lecture theatre, auditorium, or classroom.
Laptops and phones should be out of sight.
Parent Session: Study Hacks
Want to know how you can support your children with their high school study? Confused about what makes ‘good’ revision habits? Unsure if your children are actually studying effectively?
In this online session, Dr Jane will explain how you can support your children to study more effectively.
Why online?
It’s not always easy to get to the school on a weeknight and also how nice it is to do something like this without leaving your PJs/cup of tea/couch!
What’s included with an online parent session:
- Zoom registration link for parents to sign up
- Email reminders to registrants sent the day before and an hour before the session begins (prompting parents to join the session)
- Summary sheet
- Links to additional resources
Duration: 1 hour
Note for Dr Jane:
In my experience, year 7 parents are keen to support their children to learn more effectively, but often they’re not sure what to do (they were never taught effective study strategies in school or university).
In this session, I share a range of effective learning strategies and ways parents can support and encourage their children to use the strategies at home.
Why bother running a parent evening session?
Because it makes a difference when parents are on the same page as their children regarding effective study strategies.
Option 2: Teacher-Led Sessions for Year 7 Students
Study Hacks: Learning How to Learn
In this pre-recorded (teacher-led) session, Dr Jane Genovese shares with students effective ways to learn information and get organised.
Forget the idea of reading your books over and over again or highlighting entire paragraphs of information. Old-fashioned study methods are painful, boring, and not very effective.
There is a better way. Dr Jane Genovese will show you how!
What’s included with the Study Hacks (Teacher-Led) Session:
- A script to facilitate the session
- Access to videos
- Summary sheet for students
- Resource for teachers to facilitate a quick refresher activity (Duration: 10-15 minutes)
- Resource for teachers to facilitate a follow-up practical session (Duration: 1 hour)
Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Success Habits: Small Changes that Lead to Big Results
In this session, students will learn how to create solid study habits in a way that feels fun, fast, and easy!
They will also learn how to set up their study space to support their habits and achieve their goals.
What’s included with the Success Habits (Teacher-Led) Session:
- A script to facilitate the session
- Access to videos
- Handouts and worksheets for students
- Resource for teachers to facilitate a follow-up activity (Duration: 10-15 minutes)
Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Option 3: Study Hacks Teachers' Toolkit
In-House Study Skills Program
Prepare your students for secondary school with a choose your own adventure style study skills program.
- A series of short interactive lessons (10–30 minutes in length) for teachers to deliver to their students throughout the year to reinforce key ideas and study strategies.
- Teachers are provided with 46 scripts that can be adapted or used verbatim.
- Handout sheets and slides also make it easy for teachers to implement.
- Each session is designed to reinforce key ideas and strategies covered in the Study Hacks book.
- The teachers’ toolkit enables everyone to speak the same language around study skills.
A class set of 25 Study Hacks books is included with this program.
Note: Schools will often book an online session with Dr Jane Genovese before launching this program.
