Dr Jane Genovese

My mission is to help people thrive.

But you can’t thrive without a healthy planet.

In my free time, I’m passionate about empowering people to decrease their ecological footprint while increasing their well-being, building
their skills and boosting their confidence.

I have developed a range of dynamic community workshops and short courses to inspire people to take the next step on their sustainable living journey.

My goal is to make research on sustainable living and behaviour change more accessible to people through delivering fun, informative and
engaging workshops.

The ancient art of thrift

Rediscovering the Ancient Art of Thrift

Being thrifty is about thriving by making the most of your resources (i.e. money, time and possessions).

In this workshop, participants will learn how to flex their thrift muscle by thinking outside the box and finding creative alternatives to everyday purchases and paid experiences.

Topics include:

  • Finding your enough point
  • Exploring what's most important
  • Practical strategies to help you save precious resources (i.e. time, money and energy)
  • And much, much more!
The waste-free cook

The Waste-Free Cook

It’s time to do a kitchen stocktake! Australians generate over 3.3 million tonnes of food waste a year (that’s equivalent to filling the MCG 6 times over).

In this workshop, participants will learn practical strategies to save money on their weekly grocery shop, cook healthy meals for the people they love, avoid food waste, and take control of their health and happiness.

Topics include:

  • Practical strategies to steamline the cooking process and get dinner on the table quickly!
  • Trolleyology: Understanding supermarket psychology
  • Being a waste warrior (reducing your food and plastic waste)
The thrifty fashionista

The Thrifty Fashionista

Do you have a wardrobe full of clothes but feel like you have nothing to wear? In Australia, we are suffering from a wardrobe crisis with the average woman wearing only 40% of the clothes she owns. But not only that, Australians throw away 6,000kg of fashion and textile waste every 10 minutes!

In this workshop, you will learn how to escape the fast fashion cycle, appreciate what you already have and wear your clothes with confidence.

Topics include:

  • Strategies for resisting fast fashion/impulse purchases
  • How to be kind to your clothes so they last longer
  • Embracing a repair culture
  • Busting myths around beauty

The Habits of (Sustainable) Happiness

We’re bombarded with messages telling us that bigger and better things are the pathways to happiness. But research shows true happiness can’t be purchased. So what makes a difference?

In this workshop, participants will learn ways to boost their happiness while being kind to the planet.

Topics include:

  • Redefining success and exploring new metrics for success
  • The science of happiness and wellbeing
  • Cultivating an attitude of gratitude
  • The Diderot Effect and how you can avoid it

Building Sustainable Habits

You’ve greened your lifestyle but what about your friends and family? If you’ve ever felt frustrated that your friends and family don’t share your green values and lifestyle practices, then this workshop is for you!

In this workshop, you will learn how you can gently bring others on board and expand your sphere of influence.

Topics include:

  • The fundamental principles of human behaviour
  • Effective behaviour change strategies
  • Dealing with psychological resistance to change
Volunteer management

Volunteer Management Masterclass

This session will explore what you need to do to manage your volunteers and make the most of their time and energy.

Come away with fresh ideas, tools and new approaches on how to manage your volunteers effectively and enhance their experience so they stay for the long-term.

Topics include:

  • How to value your volunteers most precious resource (i.e. time)
  • Planning 101 and tools to help
  • Creating an amazing volunteer experience
  • Strategies for delivering high impact training and orientation sessions
The art of deliberate rest

The Art of Self Care

When you take care of yourself you have more energy to do the things that matter most to you. But too often, volunteers and community leaders end up burning themselves out emotionally and physically.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to take better care of themselves so they have the energy to pursue the causes they feel passionate about.

Topics include:

  • How to resist the lure of busyness and reclaim your right to rest
  • The self care paradox
  • Active and passive forms of rest
